Fall Movement Songs

These songs are great for moving around outside. Let the children know the boundaries that they can feel free to move around in. Bring outside a portable speaker. And for the song “Blowing In The Wind” you will need a play scarf for each child. These songs are also on a Spotify playlist “Fall Kids Movement Songs”.

Being outside the child can feel the wind blowing, maybe see squirrels scurry, and they have plenty of room to twirl and run. Demonstrate the movements for the children, they will learn by watching you. And you can join in on the fun!

  1. “Gray Squirrel” Kathy Reid-Naiman

“shake your bushy tail” - shake hips

“pick up an acorn with your toes” - point to toes

“wrinkle up your little nose” - wrinkle nose

2. “Walk Old Squirrel” Kathy Reid-Naiman

Follow along with the movements of the song, enjoying the rhythm. The children can move around in a circle, or move all over the designated space.

3. “Pumpkin Curves” Roly Poly Movement (Luke and Brigette Hill)

My husband and I wrote this song for children feel the shape of a curve with their bodies. For more information check out “Tree Rings And Other Things” in my shop.

Lyrics and Movements:

Now find your stem, pumpkin (reach above head)

Chorus:

Pumpkin curves, going down the side (reach down making a curve)

And the other side (reach down making a curve)

as the pumpkin curves. (repeat chorus)

Little, little, pumpkin (crouch small)

Medium, medium growing pumpkin (stand)

Great big, great big, wide pumpkin (stand wide)

Now find your stem, pumpkin (reach above head)

4. “Falling Leaf” Stephanie Leavell

Children love acting like a leaf while dancing to this song.

5. “Blowing In The Wind” Stephanie Leavell

For this song you will need a play scarf for each child. On a windy day you might have the child not let go of their scarves, unless you want to play “chase the scarf”! For children that need to work on bi-lateral coordination, have them hold onto the scarf with 2 hands and move it around.

6. “Bitty Bitty Bat” Stephanie Leavell

Encourage the children to have their motions fit the different kinds of bats.
