Give Children a Chance to Scribble and Draw

Everyone wants elementary school students to be ready to learn how to write letters in school.

This means that preschoolers need a lot of scribbling and drawing time before they become elementary school students.

Scribbling and drawing help children to develop the foundational skills children need to learn how to write letters. Children learn how to make marks, and then shapes. All while having fun and using their imagination!

Have it be easy and accessible for your preschooler to draw.

  1. Have a drawing notebook.

This is a great way to keep all of your child’s papers in one place. Make sure they know where the notebook is kept so that they can get it out anytime they want to draw.

2. Use a large drawing pad for groups.

A large drawing pad gives multiple children a chance to draw together. Often they are inspired by what they see each other draw. An outside playdate is a perfect time to set out a large drawing pad and crayons.

3. Take drawing supplies on a hike or to the park

When going to play on a hike, stick a clipboard with paper, and a box of crayons into a backpack. The clip board is great to keep the paper from blowing away in the wind.

4. Take preschool outside with a drawing basket

Fill a basket with construction paper, the drawing notebook, crayons, and colored pencils. This is easy to grab and take with you when playing in your backyard.
