4 Books That Inspire Preschoolers To Draw
Reading picture books with a child is a great way to start an activity. As you talk about what happened in the book, it is an easy transition into giving the child a chance to draw. All of these books have elements of fun and imagination, which are great elements of an activity with children.
“Line and Scribble” by Debora Vogrig
Activity: Draw lines together with a child. Talk about what you can make the lines into. Then draw scribbles with a child and talk about what you can make the scribbles into.
“Dog Loves Drawing” Louise Yates
Activity: Have a big piece of paper on the ground that multiple children can draw on it at the same time.
“Henry’s Map” David Elliot
Activity: Talk together with the child as you work together to make a map of your yard, or forest, or play ground, or classroom.
“Harold and the purple crayon” Crockett Johnson
Activity: Unroll a long roll paper. Draw as you walk from left to right. Alternatively you could draw along a sidewalk with chalk.
